European Bison at Białowieża Forest

Białowieża Forest, straddling the Poland-Belarus border, is one of Europe's last great tracts of primeval woodland, its ancient mosaic of deciduous & mixed forest offering a fitting stage for photographing the continent's largest land mammal, the European Bison. Winter light filtering through the bare trees in January lends a stark, atmospheric quality to images, with the bison's dark bulk standing out against the pale, frost-touched woodland floor. Patience is rewarded here more than technical trickery, as these animals move steadily through their ancient range, offering photographers a genuine sense of scale & wildness. Those joining the Wildlife of Białowieża Forest holiday will have the chance to seek out this iconic species amid one of Europe's most untouched forest landscapes.
