Giraffe at Great Rift Valley
Against the layered escarpments & volcanic peaks of Kenya's Great Rift Valley, giraffes browsing the acacia woodland offer a wonderfully graphic subject, their long necks & patterned coats set against the soda lakes & open savannah grassland below. Photographers joining Wildlife of Shompole Wilderness in October should look to use the surrounding scrubby bushveld & distant escarpment lines as natural framing devices, giving images a real sense of place. Wide shots that take in the tectonic trench's dramatic topography can work well alongside tighter portraits, allowing you to tell both the landscape & the animal's story in a single gallery.
