Pink-backed Pelican at Lake Kerkini

Lake Kerkini, tucked into Central Macedonia near the Bulgarian border, is a reservoir wetland created by the early twentieth-century damming of the Strymonas River, & its sheltered waters draw Pink-backed Pelicans among the site's varied birdlife. January visitors joining the Dalmatian Pelicans of Lake Kerkini holiday have the chance to photograph these birds against the open expanse of the lake, with the surrounding wetlands providing an atmospheric backdrop. The scale of the reservoir gives photographers room to work with reflections & wide, uncluttered compositions across the water.
