Rough-legged Buzzard at Hortobágy National Park

Hortobágy National Park, in eastern Hungary's Great Hungarian Plain, protects one of Europe's largest surviving stretches of natural puszta, a vast steppe grassland threaded with marshes, fishponds, & shallow alkaline lakes. This UNESCO-recognised landscape offers photographers wide, open sightlines across the plain, ideal for tracking Rough-legged Buzzards as they patrol the open terrain in January. Those joining the Eagles of the Hortobágy holiday will find this expansive, treeless habitat particularly rewarding for capturing the species against the flat winter puszta. Patience & a willingness to scan the open horizon will serve photographers well here.
