Best time

Late winter to early summer, particularly March to June during the breeding season, is ideal. Early morning light provides the best conditions for capturing warm-toned plumage & active hunting behaviour.

Approach

Position yourself near known nest sites in early spring when adults are actively bringing food to chicks, as this offers excellent behavioural shots. Use a long telephoto lens of at least 500mm to avoid disturbing the birds while still achieving frame-filling compositions. Scout elevated vantage points overlooking open farmland or wetland edges where eagles frequently perch & hunt, allowing you to capture flight shots against clean sky backgrounds.
