Field notes
Photography notes
Early morning during the summer months of June to August, when birds are most active foraging on alpine slopes & visibility is clearest before afternoon cloud builds up
Approach slowly & use a telephoto lens of at least 400mm to avoid disturbing the birds on open rocky terrain. Use the low-angle morning light to capture detail in the grey & white plumage against the high-altitude landscape. Wear muted, earth-toned clothing to blend into the rocky surroundings & increase your chances of a close encounter.
