Northern Peru offers one of the most concentrated & rewarding hummingbird photography experiences anywhere in the world. Set across the eastern slopes of the Andes, this itinerary moves through cloud forest & Amazonian habitats where species diversity is exceptionally high, with the potential to photograph dozens of hummingbird species across a single trip.

The structure of the trip is built around access to proven locations - lodges, reserves & specialist gardens - where feeders & natural flowers provide consistent, high-quality photographic opportunities. This allows us to work subjects repeatedly, refining technique & building a strong, varied portfolio rather than relying on chance encounters.

Highlights include time in Abra Patricia & Huembo, where we focus on some of the most sought-after species in South America, including the remarkable Marvelous Spatuletail, alongside sword-billed hummingbirds, sunangels & coquettes. The itinerary also incorporates opportunities to photograph endemic antpittas & a selection of unique cloud forest species.

The trip concludes on the Pacific coast, adding a final layer of variety with seabird photography from a boat-based session. This combination of controlled hummingbird photography, endemic species & broader bird diversity results in a highly productive & well-rounded photographic experience.
