A coastal community within the city of San Diego, on the Pacific shoreline of Southern California. Sandstone cliffs & rocky bluffs give way to sheltered coves, tide pools & sandy beaches at spots like La Jolla Cove & the Children’s Pool, while offshore the seabed drops into the La Jolla Submarine Canyon, bringing nutrient-rich water close to shore. California sea lions & Pacific harbor seals haul out on the rocks & beaches year-round, California brown pelicans & cormorants patrol the cliffs & cove, & gray whales pass offshore on their migration from mid-December through April, with bottlenose & common dolphins also seen close to shore.
