Porcupine at Shompole
Tucked into southern Kenya's Rift Valley, Shompole sits close to the Tanzanian border & within sight of the dramatic Nguruman Escarpment, its forested slopes rising sharply above the surrounding acacia woodland. This community-conserved wilderness offers a quiet, undisturbed setting well suited to seeking out porcupines, best attempted in October when our Wildlife of Shompole Wilderness holiday visits the area. Patience is rewarded here, as the acacia woodland & escarpment terrain provide plenty of cover for a species that keeps largely out of sight. Photographers joining this trip should come prepared for careful, considered fieldcraft in this remote corner of the Rift Valley.
