Common Genet at Great Rift Valley
The Great Rift Valley's fault-riven landscape of escarpments, volcanic peaks, soda lakes & acacia woodland gives way after dark to one of its more elusive residents, the Common Genet. Photographers joining the Wildlife of Shompole Wilderness holiday in October have the chance to search the scrubby bushveld margins where these secretive, cat-like mammals move through the mosaic of savannah grassland & woodland. The dramatic backdrop of this tectonic trench, framed by volcanic silhouettes, adds real atmosphere to any sighting. Patience is rewarded here, as the genet's presence is very much tied to the wilder, quieter corners of this remarkable rift landscape.
