Field notes
Photography notes
Early morning & late evening during autumn & winter offer the best chances, as coyotes are more active & visible in cooler temperatures & lower vegetation cover.
Use a long telephoto lens of at least 400mm to maintain distance & avoid disturbing the animal's natural behaviour. Position yourself downwind & wear muted, earth-toned clothing to blend into the surroundings & avoid detection. Focussing on the edges of open fields or scrubland at dawn can yield excellent opportunities as coyotes are most active during low-light hours.
