Field notes
Photography notes
Early morning during the spring breeding season from April to June offers the best opportunities, as males are most active & vocal during this period.
Approach slowly & patiently as this species is easily disturbed, using low scrub as cover to get close without alarming the bird. Use a fast shutter speed of at least 1/1000s to freeze its quick, darting movements among branches. Shoot in the soft golden light of early morning to bring out the warm sandy tones of its plumage & avoid the harsh midday sun bleaching out its subtle colouring.
