Razorbill at Varanger

Razorbills can be found along the wind-scoured coastal cliffs of the Varanger Peninsula, where Finnmark's treeless tundra gives way to the wide open fjords reaching into the Barents Sea. This remote, far northeastern tip of Norway, well above the Arctic Circle, offers a dramatic backdrop for photographing these birds against a stark Arctic landscape. Those joining the Winter Wildlife of Arctic Varanger holiday in April should come prepared for the region's exposed, open terrain, which leaves little shelter from the elements while working the cliffs.
