European Bee-eater at Pusztaszer

Pusztaszer, a village on the Great Hungarian Plain near Szeged, is home to photographer Bence Máté's family farm & its network of purpose-built hides set amid wetland, meadow & forest-edge habitat. It's here, during June, that European Bee-eaters can be found alongside hoopoe, kingfisher, roller & a range of owls, making the most of this varied mosaic of habitats. Visiting photographers on the Wildlife Photography Hides of Hungary holiday can work from these specially designed hides, getting close to this colourful species in comfort. It's a rewarding opportunity to capture one of Europe's most striking birds against the backdrop of the Hungarian plain.
