Hoopoe at Pusztaszer

Pusztaszer, on the Great Hungarian Plain near Szeged, centres on photographer Bence Máté's family farm, where a network of purpose-built hides overlooks a mosaic of wetland, meadow & forest-edge habitat. It's here that hoopoes feature among the varied cast of species, alongside European bee-eater, kingfisher, roller & a range of owls, all within easy reach of the hides. Visiting in June with the Wildlife Photography Hides of Hungary holiday gives photographers a strong chance of capturing this distinctive, crested bird from a well-positioned hide. The setup at Pusztaszer makes it a rewarding stop for anyone hoping to add the hoopoe to their portfolio.
